Wireless Guidelines for Purchasing

Wireless Guidelines for Purchasing

Revised: April 3, 2004

Since any technology making the use of the 2.4 or 5-gigahertz frequency range could interfere with the University wireless systems either in place or planned, it is essential that an impact study be made prior to purchase or installation.  Both Technology Resources and Business Services need to be involved.

Specific guidelines include:

  • Any device transmitting using the 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11g wireless standard must be facilitated through the Information Technology department.
  • Cordless phones using the 2.4 -gigahertz frequency need to be coordinated with the Business Services and Information Technology departments to minimize interference with any wireless network devices.
