Internet Access

Main Content

TCU offers both wired and wireless internet access, designed to keep everyone connected and secure.

The network is divided into different sections (subnets) to organize users and maintain strong security.

  • Access varies by device type: TCU-owned computers connect to certain networks, while personal devices (like your laptop or phone) connect to others.
  • Support levels differ: The IT Help Desk can fully support TCU-owned devices on the network. For personal devices, we’ll do our best to help, but support is limited.

Read through the options below to find the right network for your role and type of device.

Wireless

eduroam Network

This is the primary and secure network for current employees and students  to use with their personal devices. This network is available in academic, administrative, and residential locations but not in sporting locations.

We have a resource page devoted to eduroam, benefits beyond TCU, and how to connect different devices to it.

Learn about eduroam

TCU Faculty Staff Network

This is a secured network and only available to TCU-owned devices that are listed in the TCU inventory system but is for non-wired devices (e.g. laptops). This network is available in academic, administrative, and residential locations but not in sporting locations.

This network will allow employees to access TCU shares and network printers.

TCU Registered Network

In residence halls, a student can connect up to 6 non-WPA2 Enterprise devices. This is an unsecured network that requires devices to be registered to it.

Examples: Amazon Echos, Apple HomePods, smart lights, streaming devices, etc.

How do I register a device on TCU Registered?

Unlike the eduroam network, TCU Registered requires you to register the mac address of the device in myTCU before it can be connected.

How do I start registering my devices?

  1. Login to myTCU
  2. Click on the Technology Tile
  3. Click on TCU Network Registration
  4. Add the mac address of your device to this page
  5. Wait three minutes before attempting to connect it to the TCU Registered network so that the system has time to sync your information

See the instructions for these common devices.

Reach out to the IT Help Desk if you need further assistance.

TCU Guest Network

Only temporary visitors to TCU should use this unsecured network.

When joining the network, a guest will register for a temporary account and credentials will be emailed to the registration email. These accounts are only good for 5 days and will prompt the guest to log into the system every 8 hours.

This network is only available in academic and administrative buildings. It is not available in residential or sporting locations.

Wired

TCU Faculty Staff Network

This is a secured subnet and only available to TCU-owned devices that are listed in the TCU inventory system.

This network will allow employees to access TCU shares and network printers.

TCU Wired Network

In residence halls, each student is allocated one Ethernet port that can be used for equipment that needs a fast connection. The Ethernet port is a blue wired network jack.

Examples: gaming consoles, smart TVs, streaming devices, etc.

Each student can get one free Ethernet cable from the IT Help Desk.
