Working Remotely

Main Content

Are you working while traveling or with a flexible work arrangement?

This page will help you stay connected and productive with tools, tips, and support.

Accessing TCU Resources Remotely

Since you are off campus, accessing TCU resources may require you to authenticate into services you use on campus. It is important to make sure you have your Okta Multifactor Authentication up-to-date because this is what will allow you to log in to the following resources.

Visit our Okta resource page for more information.

Using TCU Devices Remotely

If you are going to take a TCU device with you to work remotely (such as a laptop), make sure that you have logged in with your username and password before taking it off campus so that it will save your credentials onto the device. If you change your username and password at a later time, make sure to bring the device back to campus and log in so the new credentials will be saved.

You have two options to access email:

  1. Access Microsoft 365, which will also provide access to all Microsoft apps
    • Visit office.tcu.edu
    • Log in with TCU credentials
    • Verify with Okta
    • Choose Outlook on the left column
    • Tip: bookmark this page so it is easy to return to
  2. Setup your email on a mail app

You have different types of file storage options: HomeFile shares (for individuals or M: Drive) and CommonFile shares (for departments/groups) on the TCU network and Box accounts (for cloud-based storage).

Here is how to access them:

  • HomeFile (individual or M: Drive) (Choose either option.)
    • Access via the web at fsftp.tcu.edu and log in
    • Access via the VPN/RDP (see VPN section)
  • Commonfile/Archfile (groups)
    • Access via the VPN/RDP (see VPN section)
  • Box

If you have a phone number assigned to you via RingCentral, you can set up RingCentral on your mobile device via an app or download the app for your computer.

Learn more at it.tcu.edu/RingCentral or manage your phone through the RingCentral portal.

You have a Zoom Pro Access account that will work on Mac, PC, Chromebook, iOS, Android, and Linux.

Install the Zoom app from tcu.zoom.us/download and log in with TCU credentials to create or join a meeting.

While you can access most technology resources from off campus via the web, there may come a time that you need to connect to a machine in the office to access secure information or services.

In this case you will need to connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN)  first and then use remote desktop (or screen sharing for a Mac) to access the device.  It is a three-step process to connect to your machine in your office.

  1. Enroll in Okta MFA  if you have not already done so
  2. Connect to the VPN
  3. Connect Via Remote Desktop

You can follow along with the video below to get started with VPN and Remote Desktop.
